Insert the usual - I can't believe time has gone so quickly! Week 30, August, etc.
This week, I'm all about making the most of the time I have left. In my last post on living in Germany, I talked about what I would miss. Well, let's go nuts while we can!
Travel: I need to maintain a balance of checking things off my travel list and also my sanity. Since my Spain trip in June, I've gone somewhere every weekend except one. This is definitely not a pace I can maintain. I have twenty weekends left with a big list of things to see. Upcoming trips (and blog posts!) include long trips to Ireland, London and Italy; weekend trips to Berlin, Lyon, Rotterdam, and Paris; day trips to Munich, Rothenburg, Freiburg, and Bern. Plus a Rhine river cruise! I may also take a trip back to the States in October. My current plans have four weekends 'off'. We'll see how that goes.
Politics: We have less than a hundred days to the election, finally. I'm going to enjoy watching this campaign from afar - the negativity and hatred coming from Trump and his supporters is both revolting and terrifying. His recent remarks on a 'rigged' election are extremely unsettling and make me nervous for a Trump loss. In the States, I lived in a very Republican region and am grateful to not have to see this every day in person. This year, the distance is welcome.
What's Next: I'm approaching a turning point, both personally and professionally, as I decide what my next steps are. This time in Germany has allowed me to focus on what I really need at work and at home. No distractions, no putting things off indefinitely. Just serious self-reflection time. I honestly have no idea where I will be in a year, but this time alone in a foreign country has been an excellent opportunity to figure it out.
